Location of Secmol

Leh Office

SECMOL's town office is in the Housing Colony at the lower end of Leh town. From town, go down to the roundabout next to the Petrol Pump, and take the road towards Choglamsar and Manali. Pass the Hill Council Complex with its big dome on your left. After that look for an untarred road to the left, with a large sign for Leh Nutrition Project and a small sign for SECMOL. Our office is up that road on the right.

Phey Campus

SECMOL Campus at Phey is 18 km west of Leh, next to the Indus River. It is 3 km off the Leh-Srinagar highway down an unpaved road. It is 3 km beyond the centre of Phey village, so you may find it easier to reach SECMOL directly from the highway than from Phey village.

Reaching Phey Campus

The easiest way to reach SECMOL Campus is to drive from the airport or Leh town (about Rs 500 for a taxi). The drive takes half an hour.

If you come by public bus you have to walk 3 km. Take any bus going to Phyang village or Sham region and ask the conductor to let you off at the road to SECMOL (which is also where the road to Phyang leaves the highway). The bus takes about half an hour.

From Leh, pass Phey village on the highway, as far as the road to Phyang. The road to SECMOL is directly opposite the road to Phyang village, so turn left at the sign for SECMOL (i.e. away from Phyang). In 2007 trucks have been taking gravel from the surrounding hills and creating false roads, so keep heading more or less straight toward the distant mountains to the south. The correct road goes up onto a small plateau with a shed on it, and then drops down again into a small valley in the desert plain. When you see the Indus River in front of you, you can see the buildings and trees of SECMOL Campus off to your right.

There is a daily bus to Phey village at 4:30 pm. Get to the mini-bus section of the bus stand by 4:15. The people on the bus will all know SECMOL and will steer you in the right direction: follow the road parallel to the Indus River for 3 km to SECMOL Campus. The walk is more pleasant than the walk in from the highway.
